In Parapan Am Rematch, Canada Takes on the USA in Wheelchair Rugby For World #1 Ranking

(London, UK—Oct. 15) In a rematch of the thrilling wheelchair rugby gold medal game at the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games, Canada will once again compete for gold against the USA at the 2015 BT World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge. The winner will become the number one team in the world.

The 2015 BT World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge is being held in London, England alongside the Rugby World Cup. In round robin play, Canada beat the USA by one point. The USA, however, came rallying back to defeat number-one-ranked Australia in the semi-finals and earn another chance at beating the Canadian squad.

“We’re playing excellent rugby right now, but so are they,” said head coach Kevin Orr. “These are the kind of games that are a privilege to play: two great teams at an amazing venue in rugby-crazy England. We can’t wait.”

Canada and the USA have an historic rivalry that has resulted in some of the best wheelchair rugby games in the sport’s history. During the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games, Canada lost in overtime to the USA in the round robin, then won by one point in the fourth quarter of the gold medal game in front of a sold-out crowd. Canada also beat the USA in overtime of the semi-finals of the 2014 World Championships.  Tomorrow’s game promises the same level of intensity.

The match will take place on tomorrow at 2:45 pm Eastern time and can be viewed live at iwrf.com.
