Canada Qualifies for the 2014 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships

With a semi-final win over Brazil, Canada has qualified for the 2014 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships. Canada and the USA claimed the two Americas Zone spots and will meet in the finals of the 2013 IWRF Americas Zone Qualification Tournament at 11:30 am (9:30 PST, 12:30 EST).

Canada finished round robin play with a 3-1 record after losing to the USA this morning. The team had a slow start and quickly fell behind by four points thanks to a series of turnovers. Though Canada brought the score to within two during the second and third quarters, a few minutes of bad passes in the fourth quarter proved costly. The USA won 54-43.

“At the end of the day, we did what we came here to do, which is to qualify for the World Championships,” said Coach Kevin Orr. “We had some great moments against the USA this morning, but we can play much better than what we showed today. We need to refocus and come out strong tomorrow.”
