Team Canada Named as a Finalist for the 40th Annual Canadian Sport Awards

The Canadian Wheelchair Rugby National Team has been named as a finalist in the Team of the Year category for the 40th Annual Canadian Sport Awards. The Canadian Sport Awards are one of Canada's highest sporting honours and involve both able-bodied and para-sport athletes.

This year, our team has been nominated alongside the gold-medal-winning Canadian men's wheelchair basketball team and the Canadian women's soccer team, whose bronze-medal performance was one of the highlights of the Olympics.

"We are honoured to be selected as finalists, especially among such elite company," said Head Coach Kevin Orr. "To have the Team of the Year category be so dominated by Paralympic sports points to the excellent showing by Canada's Paralympic athletes and the growing respect for the para-sport movmeent."

Winners will be announced on October 17, 2012 during the President’s Reception at Canada’s Sport Hall of Fame in Calgary.
