Trevor Hirschfield Named Sport BC's Athlete With a Disability of the Year

Congratulations to Trevor Hirschfield on being named Sport BC's Athlete With a Disability of the Year! Trevor received the honour at a gala at the River Rock Casino last week hosted by none other than famous news anchor (and commentator for the Olympics) Brian Williams, seen here posing with Trevor. This year, the field for Athlete with a Disability of the Year was particularly strong. Michelle Stilwell, who won one gold and one silver medal in wheelchair racing at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, was in contention for the award, as was skiier Josh Dueck, who recently found himself the subject of international media attention when he landed the first backflip on a sit ski.

According to the selection committee, however, Trevor received the honour for his crucial role in helping Canada upset the number-one-ranked USA in the semi-finals of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. He is considered one of the best low-pointers in the world. Recently, Trevor added to his list of accomplishments when he was named captain of the Canadian national team.

Congratulations, T-Bone!
