Wheelchair Rugby’s Intro to Competition Coaching Curriculum Approved

The Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association is pleased to announce that the sport-specific wheelchair rugby coaching curriculum Intro to Competition has been approved by the Coaching Association of Canada. The project is four years in the making and will ensure that consistent coaching knowledge is applied across the country.

“This is a big step forward for the sport of wheelchair rugby,” said Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association Executive Director Cathy Cadieux. “We are grateful for the tremendous work of Dr. Andy Van Neutegem, CWSA High Performance Director, and Duncan Campbell, CWSA Development Director, in developing the course. We are especially thankful for the support and guidance provided by the Coaching Association of Canada in creating this resource.”

According to Canadian national team Head Coach Kevin Orr, the Intro to Competition curriculum will benefit wheelchair rugby at all levels.

“This curriculum will make it easier to recruit and train coaches across the country, and will ensure that every athlete from the grassroots level and beyond is getting the same level of instruction,” he said.

The curriculum will be made available through coaching courses offered by the CWSA and its provincial partners.
