(Montreal, QC) – BC wheelchair rugby player Jessica Kruger has been named the brand ambassador of the Lise Watier Something Sweet perfume line, making her one of the world’s first quadriplegic models.
Kruger, who became a quadriplegic in a workplace accident at age 15, sparked a flurry of media attention when she finished in the top five of the social media contest. This week, she was flown to Montreal along with the other finalists to meet the judges and take part in a photo shoot. Last night, she was declared the contest winner and will act as ambassador to the brand.
Kruger, who is also an English Literature student at Simon Fraser University, hopes that her win will allow her to increase the level of diversity in the modeling world and become a role model to other women with disabilities.
“Hopefully other girls and women with disabilities who are going through a similar journey will recognize that disability does not rob you of being beautiful, nor does it take away from the person that you truly are,” she said. “The fact that Lise Watier is embracing me – all of me – in this pursuit is truly unbelievable. This Canadian cosmetic company is showing the world that different can be beautiful.”
