Andy's Blog: 2014 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships - Day 1

Team Canada arrived safe and sound in Denmark but our journey had its moments.  A lightning storm in Toronto delayed our departure by four hours of which 2 hours were sitting in the plane.  A quick 7 hour journey in the air to Copenhagen was extended by a further 30 minute wait on the tarmac waiting for a gate to park.  But we arrived  at the Hotel Nyborg Strand at 6.30 pm and enjoyed a wonderful dinner in our beautiful hotel.  It is  very warm and humid here and with no air conditioning in the hotel. Every fan in the hotel has been commandeered to keep us cool and Cathy Cadieux has bought enough fans for all of us, despite all of Denmark suffering a fan shortage!  How does she do it?

Today, Day 1, we are practising at South Denmark University before joining the rest of the countries at the competition venue in Odense on August 2nd.  Spirits are good with the team members and the staff started our stay with a quick bicycle trip to the small village of Nyborg.  Unfortunately yours truly fell off his bike when the tire got stuck in a wooden bridges’ rut.  The only injury was to my ego and the bicycle’s tire.

More updates to come throughout the competition so that you can get a small glimpse of Team Canada from the inside perspective….
