The Ontario Thunder successfully defended their title to be named the 2013 Coloplast Canadian Wheelchair Rugby National Champions for the second time in a row. The Thunder continued their undefeated streak by beating the Quebec Impact 54-43 during Sunday’s gold medal match.

BC A narrowly claimed the bronze medal with a 47-45 victory over Alberta in a game that was tied until the last minute. In Division Two, Saskatchewan won the gold medal 52-43 over Manitoba. New Brunswick beat BC – B to win the bronze.

Tomorrow, the Thunder will play for gold against Quebec in Division One, while Saskatchewan will compete against Manitoba for the Division Two title.

The 2013 Coloplast Canadian Wheelchair Rugby National Championships are coming to Mount Royal College in Calgary from May 17 - 19. Among the many athletes competing will be young rising star Zak Madell, of Okotoks, AB, who has been making waves in the sport since he was recruited three years ago. Bill Funk Nominated for Manitoba's Volunteer of the Year

Bill FunkBILL FUNK, father of former national team athlete Jared Funk, has been nominated for Sport Manitoba's Volunteer of the Year 2013.  Bill has been volunteering with the wheelchair rugby program for more than 15 years in various capacities such as coaching and equipment manager.  He has been involved in multiple community outreach programs and has spent time promoting wheelchair sports and wheelchair rugby at Have-A-Go Days at the HSC and Soldiering On events in Shile, MB.&n
