 |
 #4 - Bryan Kirkland - USA |
"Team U.S.A. is thankful to be part of something as great as the Canada Cup." (May 28, 2008)
|
 #14 - Adam Wakeford - NZL |
"This is my first international
tournament and I'm a bit nervous. This tournament is super organized and we're all enjoying ourselves. My only problem is what to wear on Sunday when the put the gold
medal around my neck." (June 26, 2008)
|
 #4 - Josie Pearson - GBR |
"What a fantastic venue. This is my
first major international tournament and I'm having a great time. I'm really loving it and hope my team wins the gold medal." (June 26, 2008)
|
 #5 - WANG, Sheng - CHN |
"Ï've been playing the game for two
years and I really love it. We are all having a really nice time here. It's my first time in North America. One complaint, we don't get enough Chinese food but it is getting better." (June 26, 2008)
|
Luiz Claudro Pereira, President, Brazil Wheelchair Rugby Association |
"I am here to attend the IWRF
Assembly meetings: Ëverything is great, excellent and everyone seems so excited. Transportation is great and so is the on-going information. The spirit around the event is fantastic and I hope my country can be here in 2010 for worlds." (June 26, 2008)
|
 A/C - Bert Metzger - GER |
"Things are fine. This is my first visit to your city but our team has been here on two other occasions.
The venue looks very good and we certainly have no complaints." (June 26, 2008)
|
Coach Benoit Labrecque - CAN |
(Following Canada's first game) -
"We began really well and had good intensity in the first half, but we lost some of that in the 2nd half, but I'm pleased with our overall performance. Now that we
are going in to our second game against China, I don't want our team to focus on the fact that we're playing a weaker team, but we are playing a TEAM, and we have to get
rid of our unforced errors." (June 27, 2008)
|
Coach James Gumbert - USA |
(After second game Friday following
win over Japan) - "We played an incredible opponent. Japan has so much team speed. We've been working on different types of defense to try and slow it down a little
bit. Our guys really stepped up to the plate with good execution and intensity today and just followed the game plan flawlessly. I think that our greatest
benefit is our bench. It's not just one player that can win game for us - it's the entire team. We feel like we are a team of 20 on the field. Whether
it's our players or staff, we feel like we're one." (June 27, 2008)
|
Manager Marco Dispaltro - CAN |
(End of day Friday) - "It's always the
case if you have a good team you are playing against, and you have the opportunity, you've got to put them away. We did not, and Japan hung around. We were fortunate
enough to come up with the win, but it was a one-goal win, a little bit too close for comfort. Hopefully it is a bit of a wake up call for the guys. You can't take a
quarter off at this level. You've got to be on all the time. Tomorrow we are going to play against our eternal rivals, the US. With the US usually there doesn't need to
be a wakeup call. The guys are pumped for that game." (June 27, 2008)
|

#3 - Ryley Batt - AUS |
(End of day Friday) - "There's a lot
of good competition here. We had a hard game against Germany which is a very tactical team, and then it's always a big war against New Zealand and they won the war this
time. Hopefully we'll get them in Beijing where it actually matters. But it was a great day and we'll see what tomorrow brings." (June 27, 2008)
|
#1 - Daniel Paradis - CAN |
(After Canada/USA Game) -
"Everybody played well. We had a few mental errors, but we're here to prepare for Beijing. They're a tough team,
but we're right there, and we had a good game." (June 28, 2008)
|
#4 - Erika Schmütz - CAN |
(unable to play due to injury)
"Beijing is the ultimate goal so right now I'm helping out where I can doing the stats. It's extremely difficult being on the sidelines. It's one of the hardest things I've
ever had to do. I'll definitely be ready for Beijing - even if I have to sign a waiver! It's a done deal for sure - I'll be playing in Beijing." (June 28, 2008)
|
#9 - Nick Springer - USA |
(After Canada/USA Game) - This team
beat us a week ago and it hurt. We had a whole week to think about the loss. It stings a lot, so we knew we had to come out and play strong. I think
we did that. We played like a team and we just kept throwing new fresh lines out there at them. The deuce lineup played really strong, the 3.5 - 2.0 - 2.5 line
played unbelievably strong, and then the 3.0 - 2.0 - 1.0 finished really strong and played well throughout." (June 28, 2008)
|
#1 - George Hucks - AUS |
(Following their overtime game
against GBR) - "It was a good day, to get the win in
the end. We had a bigger plan and obviously had to win by a certain amount and didn't get that goal but then decided in the end we've got to be pretty happy with
that to focus for Beijing. It doesn't mean that we don't want to win it, but there's a bigger picture. The best thing we could have is a game like this,
because it was a close, hard fought game. We know we have the game to get the points on one of our biggest rivals and also in the end we had to win in overtime."
(June 28, 2008)
|
#10 - Andy Barrow - GBR |
(Following their overtime game
against AUS) - "It was exciting for us - a lot of
goals scored on both sides. We had to make the decision when it went into overtime because of Pool play, whether we would take the one-goal loss to go second in
the Pool and advance to semis. That's why we are satisfied with the one goal loss. We are going to have to take second spot in the Pool but we would rather
that than play the overtime out and drop out of the semis altogether. So we're happy." (June 28, 2008)
|
#15 - ZHANG, Wenli - CHN |
"The games here have been very good,
but we are a very young team. It is such an honour, and a great opportunity that China can come here. Being able to participate and compete here is a really
good learning experience. In China we don't have the chance to be in a tournament. Playing here is good for me as a female because it helps with my
health. I would like to be able to start a female team in China." (June 28, 2008)
|
#4 - Shinichi Shimakawa - JPN |
(Following Saturday's win over Germany)
"Yesterday's loss to Canada by was only one point and today we really wanted to win. Today we led the pace of the game. It was a good game to play before
tomorrow's match. This tournament is good preparation for Beijing. There are lots of things to look over and analyze. We know what to work on and
hopefully in Beijing we can go for a medal." (June 28, 2008)
|
Coach Benoit Labrecque - CAN |
(Following the loss to New Zealand) -
"New Zealand is a really good team controlling the ball and it's always really hard to beat them. It's a little bit our black beast. We still always have
trouble beating them. We beat them twice last weekend at NorAm, and this weekend they came on a little bit stronger. But we finished the game well, and the
big games are in 75 days. Tomorrow we will focus on controlling the game and finishing well." (June 28, 2008)
|
 #11 - David Klinkhamer - NZL |
(After win over Canada) -
"It was a really hard and really close game. We practiced with a short amount of time left, and it worked. We'll get our rest tonight and then do what we can to
beat those Americans! It's a pretty good build up for us for Beijing. It's been a long way for us to come, but it's been great." (June 28, 2008)
|
 #3 - Mark Zupan - USA |
(After win over GBR) -
"You're looking at the 4th ranked team in the world so of course it's going to be hard, but if you keep plugging away, plugging away, plugging away, hopefully in the end
you can prevail, and we did. Tomorrow we'll play our game - limit turnovers, have a team game and hopefully the outcome will come in our favour." (June 28, 2008)
|
Coach Brad Dubberley - AUS |
(After final games Sunday) -
"I'm pleased overall. We just lost one game to finish 5th, which shows we still have some improving to do and we now have a good idea of what the other teams are
like heading into Beijing. This tournament proves that anyone of a handful of teams can win it all in Beijing." (June 29, 2008)
|
Coach WEN, Yan - CHN |
(After final games Sunday) -
"Our team came here to learn, not to win. Physically speaking our athletes aren't as strong and big as the other teams, and we don't have too much
on-court strategy. We learned a lot. We're trying our best to prepare for the games in Beijing. But our national team is only one year old so it is only a
baby. But we will try our best. Being here and being part of the Paralympics helps to develop our team." (June 29, 2008)
|
Coach Pierre Sahm - GER |
(After final games Sunday) -
"Some interesting classifications happened here. Some players from other countries went down so they have new lineups so the strategy of teams could change. We have a lot of work to do. In the next two
weeks we will analyze all the teams and the players. Beijing is a big thing. It is always an honour to represent our country." (June 29, 2008)
|
#6 - Ian Chan - CAN |
(After the Bronze Medal Game) -
"GB is definitely an experienced team and they play quite a similar game to us in that they're real patient with the ball and they don't make many mistakes. It was
a great confidence booster for our team. Obviously we would have liked to have been in the final game, but we came out in the bronze medal game and showed some
heart and we came out with a medal." (June 29, 2008)
|
 Coach Tom O'Connor - GBR |
(After the Bronze Medal Game) -
"" (June 29, 2008)
|
Coach Benoit Labrecque - CAN |
(After the bronze medal game) -
"That was a really good game. We controlled most of it. I'm pretty proud of my players because we did what we didn't do yesterday against New Zealand.
GB is a really good team, and they will be even stronger at the Paralympics because they have a player who was classified down from 2.5 to 2.0. We only have to play one game a day in Beijing, so fatigue won't be a factor.
Only five more games to win and we win the gold!" (June 29, 2008)
|
 #8 - Troye Collins - GBR |
(After the bronze medal game) - "It was a hard fought game that could
have gone either way. Overall, this tournament has been a great experience, and paves the way for an even better experience heading in to Beijing. As a result of
this tournament, we have come out a stronger team. We came in to this tournament under a new head coach who is definitely trying to improve us as a team. We have
watched and learned from the other teams in this tournament, and I feel we are definitely on our way up." (June 29, 2008)
|
 #4 - Bryan Kirkland - USA |
(After the gold medal game) -
"We just played with high intensity. We played as a team. There is no individual here. We have lineup after lineup. We can throw any four
players out there on the court and do what we set our goal to do. We'll continue to try to get better leading up to August. You can't rest on what you have.
Teams now have seen what we do, so we make adjustments to try to keep them off balance. We'll throw something different at them when Beijing comes around." (June 26, 2008)
|
Coach James Gumbert - USA |
(After the gold medal game) - "We
think we have the most complete bench that we can put together out there. We played an incredible opponent. We know that whenever we play them it's going to
be a strong match. I think we were very prepared. We don't settle for just being a good team. We want to be a great one. We haven't become a
great team yet. I think it sends a message to everyone else about Beijing, but more to us. We can't be happy playing good ball - we need to play great ball." (June 29, 2008)
|
Coach Grant Sharman - NZL |
(After the gold medal game) -
"They beat us in all aspects of the game. They were fresher and faster, and certainly showed why they are the best team in the world. But I'll guarantee you,
we'll be 100% fit and fresh for Beijing." (June 29, 2008)
